King meets senior officials, Jordanian innovators participating in WEF
His Majesty King Abdullah on Saturday received a number of senior officials from countries participating in the World Economic Forum (WEF) on the Middle East and North Africa, held at the Dead Sea.
King Abdullah met with Canadian Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Ahmed Hussen, and discussed means of boosting bilateral ties, especially in the areas of relief and humanitarian aid.
Speaking at the meeting, attended by Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah, the Canadian minister hailed Jordan's role in hosting Syrian refugees, expressing his country’s readiness to provide support for the Kingdom to help it shoulder this burden. He added that Canada is ready to receive more Syrian refugees from Jordan.
His Majesty also met with Costa Rican Foreign Minister Manuel A. González Sanz, and discussed ways of enhancing cooperation in economy, trade, and tourism, as well as benefiting from both countries' expertise in renewable energy.
At a meeting with German Defence Minister Ursula von der Leyen, discussions covered regional conditions, especially in Syria and Iraq, in addition to means to bolster the global coalition fighting terrorism.
The King also met with Norwegian Foreign Minister Børge Brende and discussed cooperation in various fields, in addition to current regional issues.
Moreover, His Majesty met with UN World Food Programme Executive Director David Beasley and Israeli Knesset member Tzipi Livni.
In another meeting, the King received a number of prominent Jordanian doctors who work in the US and are participating in the WEF.
His Majesty voiced his pride in all Jordanian talents abroad and their achievements in various fields, stressing the importance of reaching out to distinguished expatriates, particularly those working the medical field, to benefit from their expertise in developing the Kingdom’s healthcare sector.
The King also received a group of young Jordanians whose start-ups were selected among the top 100 Arab start-ups participating in the WEF.
His Majesty voiced his pride in those young creative entrepreneurs and innovators who have gone on to regional success, stressing his support for these talented youth and calling for benefiting from their expertise to encourage others to follow their lead.
In another meeting, the King received Jordanian engineer Abeer Seikaly, who has designed a tent for refugees that utilises solar energy and collects and stores rainwater for later use.
His Majesty praised Seikaly’s innovation and its goal of serving refugees.
Royal Hashemite Court Chief Fayez Tarawneh, Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, and Director of the Office of His Majesty Jafar Hassan attended the meetings.
