12 January 2016

His Majesty King Abdullah on Tuesday met with the leader of the United States’ Senate Majority Mitch McConnell and leader of the Minority, Harry Reid, and discussed with them a range of Middle East issues.

The meeting dealt with the war against the terrorist Daesh group. In this context, King Abdullah said all are required to deal with the threat of terrorism with all seriousness and responsibility.

They also discussed US-Jordanian relations and ways of enhancing them in various fields, in addition to the support extended through the US Congress to Jordan to help the Kingdom address economic challenges arising from regional crises.

McConnell and Reid underscored Jordan’s effort to address the ramifications of the Syrian refugee crisis and thanked the Kingdom for helping the refugees who fled the war in their country. They said they are keen to maintain non-stop coordination and consultation with the King about developments in the Middle East.
