The Judicial Branch

The Jordanian Constitution ensures the independence of the judicial power. Article 27 of the Constitution stipulates that “the judicial power shall be independent and exercised by the courts in their different types and levels. All judgments shall be issued in accordance with the law in the name of the King.”

"The Judicial Council has the sole power to appoint civil judges and refer them to retirement in line with the provisions of the relevant law"

Judges are independent, and they are not subject to any authority, in their jurisdiction, other than that of the law. Judges of the civil and Sharia courts are appointed and dismissed by a Royal Decree in accordance with the provisions of the laws.

The constitutional amendments of 2011 stipulated that the Judicial Council has the sole power to appoint civil judges and refer them to retirement in line with the provisions of the relevant law.
