Article 33 of the Constitution stipulates that the King “declares war, makes peace and concludes treaties and agreements,” while Article 37 stipulates: “The King creates, confers and withdraws civil and military ranks, medals and the other honorific titles. He may delegate this authority to another person by a special law”.

According to Article 127, the function of the Army is confined to the defence of the country and its safety. A law defines the system of work of the army and the intelligence, police and gendarmeries department and their employees’ rights and responsibilities. According to the same article, the King has the power to appoint, dismiss and accept the resignation of the army and intelligence chiefs.

His Majesty follows up on the military units affiliated with the land, naval and air forces and takes part in their various activities. He is keen on attending their military drills, checks on their preparedness and the condition of their weaponry and equipment.
