King receives NATO secretary general
His Majesty King Abdullah on Tuesday received NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and discussed cooperation between Jordan and NATO, as well as current regional developments.
Discussions covered the importance of strengthening cooperation between Jordan and NATO in the military and training fields, as well as in efforts to fight terrorism, which threatens global peace and security.
King Abdullah said Jordan is keen on enhancing its partnership with NATO.
The two sides reaffirmed the importance of building on agreements between Jordan and NATO, particularly the partnership cooperation programme to build the Kingdom’s defence capacities, and renewing Jordan’s membership in the “Enhanced Opportunities Partners” group for another three years.
Moreover, discussions addressed developments in the Syrian crisis, and His Majesty called for intensifying efforts to reach a political solution that restores security and stability, and preserves Syria’s territorial integrity.
For his part, Stoltenberg expressed appreciation for Jordan’s major role, led by the King, to seek peace and bolster stability and security in the region, while dealing with regional challenges.
He stressed NATO’s commitment to advancing its cooperation with Jordan.
Stoltenberg voiced hope that His Majesty would visit NATO’s headquarters and share his vision on crises and issues in the Middle East.
Royal Hashemite Court Chief Fayez Tarawneh, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Lt. Gen. Mahmoud Freihat, and Adviser to His Majesty and Director of the Office of His Majesty Manar Dabbas attended the meeting.
