King receives Russian FM
His Majesty King Abdullah on Monday received Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov at Al Husseiniya Palace, and discussed the strategic ties between Jordan and Russia, as well as current regional developments.
The two sides affirmed the need to enhance cooperation in various fields, especially in the political, economic, and military domains.
The meeting covered the conditions in Syria, with the two sides reiterating the call for a political solution to the crisis, and stressing the importance of the ceasefire agreement in southeast Syria, which was secured by Jordan, Russia, and the US.
Discussions also addressed efforts to move the peace process forward and seek political solutions to crises in the region, in order to guarantee security and stability for its peoples.
Royal Hashemite Court Chief Fayez Tarawneh, Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Director of the Office of His Majesty Jafar Hassan, Russia’s Ambassador to Jordan Boris Bolotin, and the accompanying Russian delegation attended the meeting.
Lavrov’s visit came ahead of the UN General Assembly meetings in New York, and the sixth round of the Astana talks on the Syrian crisis, which are slated for mid-September and are aimed at putting a stop to the fighting in Syria and creating an environment conducive to reaching a political solution through the Geneva process.
