16 January 2017

His Majesty King Abdullah, the Supreme Commander of the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army (JAF), on Monday paid a visit to the Public Security Department (PSD), where he voiced his pride in its personnel and units.

During the visit, the newly appointed PSD Director Maj. Gen. Ahmad Faqih briefed King Abdullah on the agency’s vision for the future and means to improve the police's performance.

In light of the security threats facing Jordan, His Majesty underlined the need for security agencies to coordinate their work closely to ensure the success of their operations.

The King said that police centres reflect Jordan’s image as a modern and civilised country and stressing that the relation between the police and the public should be based on mutual respect.

His Majesty issued directives to review and improve security strategies and plans that aim to curb crimes, especially those related to narcotics.

For his part, Faqih said that the most urgent mission at this stage is improving the performance of security centres and revisiting their mandates and structure. This entails providing these stations with the necessary human resources that are able to respond well to emergencies and serve the public.

He said that work is under way to prepare a comprehensive modern training strategy for all PSD units through the King Abdullah II Training City, while the traffic strategy will be revised and amended to limit traffic accidents.
