King receives US treasury secretary

His Majesty King Abdullah on Monday received US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin at Al Husseiniya Palace, for a meeting on means to bolster Jordanian-US economic cooperation.

King Abdullah stressed the importance of the strategic partnership between the two countries, expressing appreciation for the US support for Jordan.

Secretary Mnuchin noted Jordan’s key role in pursuit of security and stability in the region, and in hosting Syrian refugees, adding that the United States will continue to support the Kingdom in various areas.

The meeting covered economic challenges facing Jordan due to regional crises, and the plans and programmes aimed at stimulating economic growth, creating job opportunities, and bolstering the ability of Jordan’s economy to deal with challenges.

Discussions also addressed the major burdens Jordan is shouldering as a result of the Syrian refugee crisis and its increasing pressure on service and infrastructure sectors.

Adviser to His Majesty and Director of the Office of His Majesty Manar Dabbas, Adviser to His Majesty for Economic Affairs Mohamad Al Ississ, Finance Minister Ezzedine Kanakrieh, and US Chargé d’Affaires in Amman Paul Malik attended the meeting.
