27 May 2018

His Majesty King Abdullah on Sunday received a US House of Representatives Delegation, headed by Representative Darrell Issa (R-California) to discuss the strategic Jordanian-US partnership, as well as current regional developments.

At the meeting, held at Al Husseiniya Palace and attended by His Royal Highness Prince Feisal bin Al Hussein, King Abdullah expressed Jordan’s appreciation of the United States’ support for development programmes and for helping mitigate the impact of regional crises.

His Majesty noted the important role of US Congress in this regard.

Discussions also covered developments in the Palestinian Territories after the United States moved its embassy to Jerusalem.

The King stressed the importance of reaching a just and comprehensive peace that would enable the Palestinian people to fulfil their legitimate aspirations for an independent state on the 4 June 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

His Majesty reaffirmed that the subject of Jerusalem must be settled as part of final status issues on the basis of the two-state solution.

The King underlined Jordan’s condemnation and rejection of Israeli escalation and violence against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

The meeting also addressed the Syrian crisis, with His Majesty stressing Jordan’s support for all efforts to reach a political solution within the Geneva process.

The King underlined the importance of preserving the de-escalation zone in southwestern Syria, established last year under a Jordanian-US-Russian trilateral agreement.

For their part, the US lawmakers commended Jordan’s pivotal role, led by His Majesty in dealing with various regional issues and working towards peace, security, and stability in the region.

Adviser to His Majesty and Director of the Office of His Majesty Manar Dabbas attended the meeting.
