King receives UN High Commissioner for Refugees

His Majesty King Abdullah on Monday received UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi for a meeting to discuss cooperation between Jordan and the UNHCR in providing services for refugees.

Discussions at the meeting, held at Al Husseiniya Palace, highlighted the impact of the Syrian refugee crisis on the Jordanian economy, and the increasing burden on sectors such as education, health and infrastructure.

King Abdullah also stressed the need for the international community to shoulder its responsibility towards Syrian refugee host countries, including Jordan, and the need to maintain cooperation between the Kingdom and the UNHCR to ensure that refugees and host communities receive the necessary support.

Grandi commended Jordan's tremendous efforts to provide humanitarian and relief aid to refugees, reiterating the UNHCR's commitment to cooperating with the Kingdom to alleviate the impact of the Syrian refugee crisis.

Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and Adviser to His Majesty and Director of the Office of His Majesty Manar Dabbas attended the meeting.
