His Majesty King Abdullah on Wednesday received at Al Husseiniya Palace a delegation of board members of EastWest Institute, a non-profit, nonpartisan organisation dedicated to conflict prevention and resolution around the world.

Discussions covered Jordan’s position on current regional developments, foremost of which is the Palestinian-Israeli peace process.

King Abdullah called for stepping up international efforts to reach just and lasting peace based on the two-state solution and leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

His Majesty reaffirmed that Jerusalem is key to regional peace and stability, noting the eternal rights of Muslims and Christians to the holy city and stressing its character as a unifying city of peace.

Commenting on the Syrian crisis, the King reiterated Jordan’s support for all efforts to reach a political solution within the Geneva process, with the aim of safeguarding the territorial integrity of Syria and the unity of its people.

His Majesty stressed the importance of preserving the de-escalation zone in southwestern Syria, which was established under a trilateral Jordanian-US-Russian agreement.

Discussions also covered the Syrian refugee burden on Jordan’s limited resources, as well as regional and international efforts to counter terrorism within a holistic approach.

The delegates commended Jordan’s pivotal role in pursuit of peace, security, and stability in the Middle East and the world, praising the Kingdom’s humanitarian efforts in the service of refugees.

Adviser to His Majesty and Director of the Office of His Majesty Manar Dabbas attended the meeting.

The EastWest Institute, established in 1980 in New York, is currently holding its board meeting in Jordan.
