27 March 2018

His Majesty King Abdullah on Tuesday received Cypriot Foreign Minister Nikos Christodoulides at Al Husseiniya Palace, and discussed means to expand cooperation, as well as current regional developments.

King Abdullah affirmed keenness on advancing bilateral ties and building on the outcomes of the trilateral Jordanian-Greek-Cypriot summit that was held in Nicosia earlier this year in order to strengthen partnership and cooperation among the three countries, and with the aim of achieving security and stability in the region.

Discussions also covered the advantages offered by Jordan’s investment climate and opportunities to capitalise on Jordan’s strategic location and its free trade agreements.

Moreover, the meeting addressed the Palestinian cause and Jerusalem, with His Majesty calling for stepping up efforts to break the deadlock in the peace process and relaunch Palestinian-Israeli negotiations based on the two-state solution, leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The challenges facing churches in Jerusalem were also highlighted, as well as Jordan’s role in safeguarding Islamic and Christian holy sites in the city.

The two sides discussed crises in the region and efforts to resolve them politically, as well as efforts to fight terrorism within a holistic approach.

Royal Hashemite Court Chief Fayez Tarawneh, Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Adviser to His Majesty and Director of the Office of His Majesty Manar Dabbas, and Cypriot Ambassador to Jordan Nafsika Krousti attended the meeting.
