King receives Chinese foreign minister

His Majesty King Abdullah on Thursday received Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who conveyed the greetings of Chinese President Xi Jinping to His Majesty.

During the meeting, held at Al Husseiniya Palace, talks covered means to bolster economic and investment cooperation between the two countries, which marked this year the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties.

The meeting also touched on investment opportunities offered by Jordan in a number of vital sectors, especially tourism, phosphates, potash, energy, transport, and the projected Sino-Jordanian technical university, with discussions addressing the importance of encouraging Chinese businesspeople and tourists to visit Jordan.

Discussions tackled mega investment projects offered by the Jordanian economy, in line with China’s One Belt, One Road initiative.

Moreover, the two sides discussed the latest developments in the Middle East, foremost of which are the peace process and the Syrian crisis.

The two sides stressed the need to intensify efforts to reach comprehensive political solutions to regional crises, restoring security and stability for its peoples.

In addition, the meeting covered regional and international efforts to fight terrorism within a holistic strategy to counter its threat to global stability and security.

The Chinese foreign minister expressed his country’s appreciation of Jordan’s pivotal role, led by King Abdullah, in bolstering regional stability and highlighting the true, tolerant image of Islam.

He praised His Majesty’s vision for peace and security in the region and the world.

Royal Hashemite Court Chief Fayez Tarawneh and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi attended the meeting.
