26 March 2018

His Majesty King Abdullah on Monday received Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Aboul Gheit, who presented to His Majesty the assessment report on joint Arab action during Jordan’s presidency of the Arab Summit.

Aboul Gheit commended Jordan’s presidency of the Summit, noting its outcomes on reaffirming the centrality of the Palestinian issue and calling for work to end the Palestinian-Israeli conflict according to the two-state solution, which guarantees the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The meeting, held on the sidelines of the Laureates and Leaders for Children Summit 2018 at the Dead Sea, also covered challenges in the region and efforts to resolve them politically.

King Abdullah asserted Jordan’s commitment to supporting efforts to bolster joint Arab action, especially amidst current regional conditions, which call for concerted efforts to safeguard the Arab nation’s interests and serve its causes.

His Majesty highlighted the importance of the Arab League in coordinating and unifying Arab positions, calling for stepping up efforts to support the legitimate rights of the Palestinians to an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The King also commended the level of coordination between Jordan and the Arab League, as well as Aboul Gheit’s efforts during the Kingdom’s presidency of the 28th Arab Summit.

Aboul Gheit expressed appreciation for His Majesty’s key role and vital efforts to activate joint Arab action in the service of Arab causes.
