King meets EU high representative for foreign affairs
His Majesty King Abdullah on Sunday met with High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini, on the sidelines of the 29th Arab Summit in Saudi Arabia’s Dhahran city.
The two sides discussed the strategic partnership and cooperation between Jordan and the European Union, in addition to crises in the Middle East.
The meeting also covered the latest developments in Syria, with the two sides stressing the importance of reaching a political solution to the crisis that guarantees the territorial integrity of Syria and the unity of its people.
Moreover, discussions addressed the developments in the peace process and the need to step up international efforts to relaunch serious and effective Palestinian-Israeli negotiations on the basis of the two-state solution, and with the aim of establishing an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The two sides discussed the Syrian refugee burden on Jordan’s economy and its limited resources, as well as regional and international efforts to fight terrorism within a holistic approach.
Royal Hashemite Court Chief Fayez Tarawneh, Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, and Adviser to His Majesty and Director of the Office of His Majesty Manar Dabbas attended the meeting.
