His Majesty King Abdullah received Crown Prince Haakon of Norway, who is currently visiting Jordan, at Al Husseiniya Palace on Wednesday.

The meeting covered means to enhance economic, development, and military cooperation and attract Norwegian investments in renewable energy to Jordan.

The two sides also discussed the Sahara Forest Project, which is funded by the EU and Norway and is aimed at creating outdoor vegetation zones and building saltwater-cooled greenhouses in the area extending from the Gulf of Aqaba into Wadi Araba.

The project, which includes a solar power plant, is expected to generate many job opportunities.

Discussions covered the potential of implementing similar projects elsewhere in the Kingdom.

The two sides also discussed the impact of the Syrian refugee crisis on Jordan, urging the international community to increase its support for the Kingdom to enable it to cope with the huge burden.

King Abdullah thanked Norway for the support it provides to Jordan in development, and its assistance to enable the Kingdom to continue providing humanitarian and relief services to refugees.

Moreover, the meeting touched on current regional developments, foremost of which are the efforts aimed at relaunching the Palestinian-Israeli peace process based on the two state solution as the only way to end the conflict.

Discussions also addressed means to reach a political solution to the crisis in Syria that guarantees its territorial integrity and the safety of its people; in addition to international and regional efforts to fight terrorism within a holistic approach.
