King meets Austrian president

18 September 2017

His Majesty King Abdullah on Monday met with Federal President of Austria Alexander Van der Bellen and discussed means to boost cooperation between Jordan and Austria, as well as regional issues.

King Abdullah stressed Jordan’s keenness to bolster and expand economic relations with Austria, especially since the Kingdom boasts a safe, attractive investment environment that offers a key gateway into regional and global markets through its trade partnerships with many countries.

Discussions also covered efforts to reach political solutions to regional crises, as well as regional and global efforts to fight terrorism within a holistic strategy.

His Majesty warned of the phenomenon of Islamophobia and the marginalisation of Muslim communities in the West, which could be exploited by extremists to serve their terrorist agenda.

Also during the meeting, the two sides reviewed Jordan’s efforts to provide humanitarian and relief services to Syrian refugees, in addition to the impact of the crisis on the Kingdom and the importance of increasing the international community’s support for it in this regard.

Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, and Jordan’s Permanent Representative to the UN Sima Bahous attended the meeting.
