King meets Arab League secretary general

His Majesty King Abdullah on Wednesday received Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Aboul Gheit at Basman Palace and discussed Arab and regional developments.

Discussions covered efforts to deal with various developments in the region, with King Abdullah affirming Jordan’s keenness to support all endeavours to bolster joint Arab action in the service of Arab causes, especially at this difficult phase, which calls for further work to safeguard the Arab nation’s interests.

The meeting also covered efforts to push the peace process forward by relaunching serious and effective Palestinian-Israeli negotiations, based on the two-state solution, the Arab Peace Initiative, and international terms of reference.

His Majesty stressed the importance of coordinating stances in the service of Arab causes and interests, especially with regards to efforts to achieve lasting and comprehensive peace in the region.

The King highlighted the Arab League’s important role in this regard.

Discussions also touched on regional and international efforts to fight terrorism within a holistic strategy.

Aboul Gheit briefed His Majesty on the outcomes of the Arab foreign ministers’ emergency meeting held recently in Cairo.

He expressed the Arab League’s appreciation of Jordan’s role, led by the King, in bolstering joint Arab action and seeking regional security and stability.

Royal Hashemite Court Chief Fayez Tarawneh, Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Director of the Office of His Majesty Jafar Hassan, and Aboul Gheit’s accompanying delegation attended the meeting.
