King joins GAM in marking Amman City Day, praises automation of all its services

2 March 2021

His Majesty King Abdullah II on Tuesday joined the Greater Amman Municipality in marking Amman City Day, which commemorates the arrival of King Abdullah I in Amman 100 years ago.

King Abdullah II praised the efforts of former mayors and all who have served in GAM since its inception, in a teleconference meeting with Amman Mayor Yousef Shawarbeh and municipality officials.

His Majesty commended GAM for automating all its services, thus becoming the first national institution to provide full e-services.

Mayor Shawarbeh gave a presentation showing that a total of 134 services can be carried out electronically at 100 per cent, reducing the number of physical visits from 18 million annually to 270,000. A QR code service has also been launched, covering 23 electronic services.

Electronic signatures have been approved, Shawarbeh noted, to sign off on committee meetings, construction decisions, and GAM Council meetings, while a paperless solution has been adopted for official correspondence.

The Cabinet has designated the second of March of every year as Amman City Day, as part of marking 100 years since the establishment of the state of Jordan.
