His Majesty King Abdullah held talks on Friday with King Felipe VI of Spain at Al Husseiniya Palace.

Discussions covered the deep-rooted ties between the two countries and the latest regional developments.

In a one-on-one meeting followed by expanded talks attended by His Royal Highness Prince Feisal bin Al Hussein and senior officials from both sides, the two leaders affirmed the strong Jordanian-Spanish ties, voicing keenness to bolster them further and expand cooperation in various fields, including economy, investments, energy, and infrastructure.

The two leaders also stressed the need to maintain coordination on various regional and international issues in the service of their countries’ mutual interests and global peace and security.

The talks touched on the latest developments in the Middle East, especially the peace process, the Syrian crisis, and the fight against terrorism.

The two sides called for intensifying efforts to revive the peace process and relaunch serious and effective Palestinian-Israeli negotiations, based on the two state solution as the only way to resolve the conflict.

King Abdullah and the Spanish monarch stressed that political solutions are the only way to end crises in the region and restore security and stability.

King Felipe VI, who is scheduled to participate in the World Economic Forum at the Dead Sea, praised Jordan’s role in dealing with the challenges in the Middle East, commending its efforts to shoulder the tremendous burden of hosting Syrian refugees.

Royal Hashemite Court Chief Fayez Tarawneh, Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Director of the Office of His Majesty Jafar Hassan, and Planning Minister Imad Fakhoury attended the meeting from the Jordanian side.

His Majesty hosted a dinner banquet in honour of the Spanish king and the accompanying delegation.

Earlier, an official ceremony was held to welcome King Felipe VI upon his arrival at Al Husseiniya Palace.
