13 November 2017

His Majesty King Abdullah on Monday held talks with President of Guinea Alpha Condé at Al Husseiniya Palace on means to advance bilateral ties, as well as current regional and international developments.

Speaking at an expanded meeting held after bilateral talks, King Abdullah welcomed President Condé, noting that his visit marks an opportunity to strengthen relations between Jordan and Guinea.

“In our brief talks, we realised how much we have in common and what we could do to strengthen our relationship,” His Majesty said.

Noting current challenges, the King said that whether it is Daesh, Al Shabab, or Boko Haram, the threat is a global one, which requires joint action to counter it.

His Majesty highlighted potential opportunities to advance cooperation between Jordan and Guinea in economic, trade, military, and security areas, voicing hope that President Condé’s visit will be the start of many between the two nations.

For his part, President Condé thanked the King and the people of Jordan for the invitation and warm reception, noting that he has toured the King Hussein Medical Centre and the King Abdullah II Special Operations Training Centre during his visit.

The president voiced his admiration of the advanced resources and capabilities available at the two institutions.

Condé said he also met with a group of businessmen and discussed means to enhance commercial ties, adding that he told them he will raise the issue of opening a Jordanian embassy in Guinea at the meeting with His Majesty.

An embassy in Conakry, the president said, would be a gateway for Jordan into West Africa.

During the expanded talks, which continued over a working lunch attended by senior officials on both sides, discussions covered opportunities to increase economic, commercial, and military cooperation, as well as means for Guinea to benefit from Jordan’s expertise in the health and pharmaceutical sectors.

Cooperation in agriculture, energy, and ICT was also discussed, in addition to forming a joint ministerial committee to advance economic ties and sign framework agreements for economic and investment cooperation.

During the talks, the two sides stressed the importance of exchanging visits between businesspeople in the two countries to explore investment opportunities.

The King’s talks with Condé, who currently chairs the African Union, covered Arab-African relations and the importance of expanding cooperation in investment, development, commerce, and security.

Discussions also addressed the latest regional developments and efforts to reach political solutions to crises in the region.

In addition, the two sides discussed the regional and international efforts to fight terrorism within a holistic strategy.

Royal Hashemite Court Chief Fayez Tarawneh, Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Lt. Gen. Mahmoud Freihat, Director of the Office of His Majesty Jafar Hassan, and Minister of Industry, Trade, and Supply Yarub Qudah attended the talks.

On the Guinean side, Minister of State and Special Adviser to the President Tibou Kamara, Minister and Diplomatic Adviser to the President Koutoub Moustapha Sano, and Guinea’s non-resident ambassador to Jordan, Soriba Camara, were in attendance.
