14 May 2018

His Majesty King Abdullah on Monday received a phone call from French President Emmanuel Macron and discussed developments in the Palestinian Territories, namely the Israeli escalation in Gaza and the implications of moving the US embassy to Jerusalem.

In the phone call, King Abdullah stressed Jordan’s rejection and condemnation of Israel’s blatant aggression and violence against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

His Majesty added that the international community must uphold its moral and legal responsibilities to protect the Palestinians.

The King warned of the implications of moving the US embassy to Jerusalem, reiterating that Jerusalem is key to achieving peace and stability in the region and the world.

His Majesty said moving the embassy will have dangerous implications on security and stability in the Middle East, and will provoke Muslims and Christians.

The King reaffirmed that the issue of Jerusalem must be settled within the framework of a comprehensive and final solution, based on the two-state solution that leads to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

In the phone call, His Majesty and President Macron agreed to maintain coordination and consultation over various issues and current developments.
