King, French President discuss developments on Jerusalem

6 December 2017

His Majesty King Abdullah on Wednesday received a phone call from French President Emmanuel Macron and discussed developments related to Jerusalem, on the backdrop of US President Donald Trump’s stated desire to move the United States embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

In the phone call, King Abdullah affirmed that this decision will have serious implications on regional security and stability, and it will undermine efforts to resume the peace process.

His Majesty stressed that the issue of Jerusalem must be settled within the framework of a comprehensive solution that leads to the establishment of a Palestinian state, with East Jerusalem as its capital, living side by side with Israel.

The King called for supporting Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and the Palestinian Authority to enable them to establish an independent Palestinian state, based on the two-state solution.

His Majesty also praised France’s position in seeking just peace and stability in the Middle East.

The two sides agreed to hold a meeting soon between the King and President Macron to continue coordination over various issues and current developments.
