25 October 2017

His Majesty King Abdullah received a phone call from Hamas Politburo Chief Ismail Haniyeh on Wednesday, which covered the developments related to the Palestinian reconciliation agreement.

In the phone call, King Abdullah congratulated Haniyeh on the reconciliation agreement reached recently.

His Majesty also affirmed Jordan’s full support for the Palestinians as they take on the challenges before them, stressing the importance of working as one in defending Arabs’ rights in Jerusalem and supporting the Palestinian cause.

Jerusalem and the Palestinian issue, the King asserted, are a priority for Jordan, and they must remain so for all Arab and Muslim countries, forming a united front.

For his part, Haniyeh outlined the challenges in the region, stressing that Palestine is Palestine, and Jordan is Jordan, but the two peoples’ security is one.

The Hamas leader also praised His Majesty’s historical role in safeguarding Al Aqsa Mosque and Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.

Haniyeh stressed the seriousness of efforts underway to ensure Palestinian unity and fulfil the aspirations of the Palestinian people.
