15 May 2018

His Majesty King Abdullah, accompanied by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, on Tuesday chaired a National Policies Council (NPC) meeting at Al Husseiniya Palace, on developments in the Palestinian Territories after the US moved its embassy to Jerusalem and the Israeli aggression against unarmed Palestinians in Gaza.

Speaking at the meeting, King Abdullah expressed his utter condemnation and rejection of the violations and violence perpetrated by Israel against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, urging the international community to uphold its responsibilities and protect the Palestinian people.

His Majesty reaffirmed that Jordan will persist in supporting the Palestinians as they confront challenges, and will remain dedicated to ensuring the Palestinian people’s perseverance on their national soil.

The King instructed the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organisation to dispatch urgent medical and humanitarian aid to Gaza to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people and enable them to overcome difficulties in the strip.

His Majesty also issued directives to evacuate those critically injured in Gaza to receive treatment at Royal Medical Services (RMS) hospitals.

On Monday, the King had instructed the General Command of the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army to ensure that the RMS field hospital in Gaza is fully staffed, supplied and equipped to provide medical attention to Palestinians injured by Israeli aggression and violence.

Tuesday’s NPC meeting also covered Jordan’s steadfast position in rejection of moving the US embassy to Jerusalem, a decision that, His Majesty stressed, provokes Muslims and Christians around the world.

The King reiterated Jordan’s full support for the Palestinians in safeguarding their historical and legal rights to Jerusalem, and in their efforts to establish an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

His Majesty called for stepping up Arab, Islamic, and international efforts to safeguard the rights of Palestinians, Arabs, and Muslims to Jerusalem, which is key to achieving peace and stability in the region.

The King noted that the issue of Jerusalem must be settled within the framework of a comprehensive solution, based on the two-state solution that leads to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

His Majesty stressed that the international community must uphold its responsibilities and take firm positions in support of achieving peace and resolving the Palestinian issue.

Prime Minister Hani Mulki, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Economic Affairs Jafar Hassan, Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Lt. Gen. Mahmoud Freihat, and General Intelligence Department Director Maj. Gen.
