11 June 2017

His Majesty King Abdullah, accompanied by Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah, chaired a meeting at Al Husseiniya Palace on Sunday to follow up on the implementation of the National Strategy for Human Resources Development 2016-2025.

King Abdullah was briefed on efforts to unify the work of various institutions and programmes in the vocational training sector, and increase their efficiency and quality of training to meet labour market demands.

His Majesty stressed the importance of employing modern technologies in education and introducing structural reforms to enhance vocational education.

The King said the government should accelerate the restructuring of the vocational and technical training sector, describing it as a top priority.

His Majesty commended the government's progress in implementing the National Strategy for Human Resources Development and its programmes, stressing the need to ensure the quality of the programmes and follow up on implementation within a set timeframe.

All officials and employees, the King said, must undertake their responsibilities and overcome any obstacles in the face of progress.

His Majesty called for identifying shortcomings to address them, and points of strength to build on them by applying accreditation, quality, and academic benchmarks.

Employing the latest technology in education is the best way to nurture creativity and excellence among students, the King said, adding that this will reflect positively on the quality of education and advance the overall educational process.

For his part, Prime Minister Hani Mulki said implementing the human resources development plan is a priority for the government, stressing the importance of upgrading the vocational training sector and highlighting the steps taken to that end.

Education Minister Omar Razzaz gave a briefing on the measures taken by all ministries in coordination with vocational training institutions.

He also highlighted procedures set and implemented by the Ministry of Education to develop education and the General Secondary Education Certificate Examination (Tawjihi), as well as a plan on how to best utilise technology in education.

Royal Hashemite Court Chief Fayez Tarawneh, Director of the Office of His Majesty Jafar Hassan, Minister of Higher Education Adel Tweisi, and Minister of Labour Ali Ghezawi also attended the meeting.

The National Strategy for Human Resources Development is the outcome of recommendations by the National Committee for Human Resources Development, formed upon His Majesty’s directives to the government in March 2015.
