King attends medical evacuation exercise

29 May 2018

His Majesty King Abdullah, the Supreme Commander of the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army, on Tuesday attended a medical evacuation exercise conducted by the Royal Medical Services (RMS).

At the site of the exercise, King Abdullah was received by Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Lt. Gen. Mahmoud Freihat and RMS Director Maj. Gen. Muin Habashneh, as well as a number of senior army and RMS officers.

The drill included a mock attack on a border town near a military battalion, with its personnel administering first-aid to the injured.

The injured were then evacuated to the battalion’s location, where they were examined to identify the degree of injury and the required treatment measures before being moved to hospital.

Next during the exercise, the injured were evacuated to a deployable rapid assembly shelter (DRASH), which has been introduced recently with a capacity of 26 beds. It also includes two operating rooms, an intensive care unit, and sections for severe cases and evacuation.

Patients were then taken to the Special Field Hospital/6, which has been in operation for three years as a gift from His Majesty to the RMS. It includes 12 departments equipped with the latest medical devices, as well as 50 beds.

The field hospital includes an emergency, intensive care, radiology, lab, dental, and neonatal departments, as well as specialised clinics, a water desalination facility, on-site medical oxygen production, and four power generators.

The drill also featured a response to a mock chemical attack.

After the exercise, the King toured the field hospital and was briefed on its equipment and the services it provides to patients.

General Intelligence Department Director Maj. Gen. Adnan Jundi, Royal Hashemite Court Secretary General Yousef Issawi, the directors of the public security, civil defence, and gendarmerie directorates, and a number of senior army and security officers attended the drill.
