King attends conclusion of Al-Faris International Horseback Archery Championship III

His Majesty King Abdullah on Saturday attended the conclusion of Al-Faris International Horseback Archery Championship III at Al Rayah Parade Grounds in the Royal Hashemite Court, featuring 48 contestants from 25 countries.

King Abdullah also honoured winners in the European, Asian, and Oriental horseback archery styles.

At the closing ceremony, also attended by His Royal Highness Prince Hashim bin Al Hussein, the Chief Royal Councillor and the honorary chairman of the championship’s organising committee, His Majesty attended the final competition in the Oriental Style, known as Al Ghara—Arabic for “raid”—which is a newly developed Jordanian Style that combines archery with tent-pegging.

His Royal Highness Prince Ali bin Nayef, and Adviser to His Majesty and Director of the Office of His Majesty Manar Dabbas, as well as a number of senior officials and officers attended Al-Faris III, organised in cooperation with the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, the Jordan Tourism Board, and the Public Security Directorate.

The championship featured participants from Jordan, Australia, Britain, Bulgaria, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Iran, Ireland, Kazakhstan, Lichtenstein, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Poland, Qatar, Romania, Russia, South Africa, South Korea, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, and the United States.

Jordan hosted and organised the first two Al-Faris Championships in 2011 and 2012.

Christoph Némethy of Hungary came in first place in the overall competition, covering the three horseback archery styles, followed by Mihai Cozmei of Romania in second place, and Sweden’s Emil Eriksson in third place.

In the competition for the European Style, also known as the Hungarian Style, Mihai Cozmei of Romania came in first place, followed by Lukas Novotny of the United States, and Hungary’s Christoph Némethy.

In the Asian Style, also known as the Korean Style, Robin Descamps of France won first place, followed by Mihai Cozmei of Romania, and Hungary’s Christoph Némethy.

In the Oriental Style, Christoph Némethy of Hungary came in first, followed by South Africa’s Daniel Griffin, and Sweden’s Emil Eriksson.

On the sidelines of the championship, the King met with Assistant to the President of Sudan Maj. Gen. Abdul Rahman Al Sadig Al Mahadi, who also chairs Sudan’s Equestrian Club.
