King attends CDD drill
His Majesty King Abdullah, the Supreme Commander of the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army, on Monday attended an exercise conducted by Civil Defence Directorate (CDD) personnel, in cooperation with relevant agencies, in Ghamadan area.
Upon arrival at the site, King Abdullah was received by Prime Minister Hani Mulki, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Lt. Gen. Mahmoud Freihat, and the directors of intelligence, public security, gendarmerie, and civil defence.
The drill, attended by Their Royal Highnesses Prince Feisal bin Al Hussein and Prince Hashim bin Al Hussein, included dealing with forest fires, collapse of buildings, and explosions caused by fires.
Firefighters and ambulance teams dealt with the simulated incidents, with Royal Jordanian Air Force planes used to evacuate the injured. The Mi-26 helicopter, recently added to the RJAF fleet upon royal directives, was also used. It has the capacity to lift 15,000 litres of water and is equipped with 60 beds for medical evacuation purposes.
His Majesty praised the advanced level of CDD personnel and thanked them for their efforts.
The King also ordered the provision of two rescue boats to ensure the availability of land, sea and air transportation capabilities for medical evacuation.
