31 May 2018

His Majesty King Abdullah is scheduled next week to start a working visit to Tirana, Albania, to participate in an international meeting held as part of the Aqaba Meetings series to enhance global coordination and efforts in countering terrorism and violent extremism, preceded by a private visit.

The meeting, held for the first time outside Jordan, will cover security challenges in the Western Balkans, and will include security and political officials from several countries, as well as officials from the Balkans, international partners, and the European Union.

King Abdullah and Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama are also scheduled to attend part of a conference on countering violent extremism, jointly held by the Albanian and Dutch governments, with the participation of the heads of government in Kosovo, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, and Bulgaria, as well as 200 leading politicians, security officials, religious leaders, and academics.

The Aqaba Meetings are a series of international meetings launched by His Majesty in 2015 to bolster security and military cooperation, coordination and exchange of expertise among regional and international partners to counter terrorism within a holistic approach.

His Royal Highness Prince Feisal bin Al Hussein was sworn in as Regent in the presence of Cabinet members.
