His Majesty presents King’s Colours to 39th Jafar Bin Abi Talib Mechanised Battalion

8 May 2017

His Majesty King Abdullah, the Supreme Commander of the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army, on Monday presented the King’s Colours to the 39th Jafar Bin Abi Talib Mechanised Battalion from the 48th Princess Alia Mechanised Brigade.

The handing over of the banner, a tradition that started in September 2015, is the highest military honour awarded to a unit in appreciation of its role in defending the Kingdom.

King Abdullah, received by Chairman of the Joint Chiefs-of-Staff Lt. Gen. Mahmoud Freihat and senior army officers, was greeted at Al Rayah with a 21-gun salute.

After the handing over ceremony, His Majesty presented the family of martyred soldier Sleiman Musa Mteirin with the plaque of the 39th Jafar Bin Abi Taleb Mechanised Battalion.

Mteirin died in the line of duty as a soldier in the battalion during the 1967 war in Palestine.

A military exhibition was also held on the sidelines of the ceremony, featuring machinery and weapons used by the battalion.

Royal family members and senior officials and officers attended the ceremony.
