King meets Muslim leaderships in India

His Majesty King Abdullah on Thursday met with Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha Rahman Khan and a number of Indian Muslim leaderships.

During the meeting, King Abdullah expressed Jordan's keenness to enhance relations with these leaderships, stressing the Kingdom's commitment to provide scholarships for Indian Muslim students to study in Jordan.

He also discussed about the content of Amman Message, which he said, is meant to correct the distortions of religious teachings by extremists. "Islam is being misunderstood," he said. "The Amman Message was meant to clarify its meaning not only for non-Muslims, but also for Muslims themselves especially youth."

For their part, the Muslim leaderships in India lauded the King's efforts to portray the essence of Islam, and expressed their appreciation of his offer to extend scholarships to Indian Muslims to study in Jordan.
