

King discusses Gaza with Mubarak, Abbas

His Majesty King Abdullah and Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak on Tuesday reviewed the latest developments in the Gaza Strip and means to end the suffering of the strip's residents.
In a telephone call with the Egyptian president, King Abdullah reiterated that Israel's continued aggression and siege of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip is totally unacceptable and will not serve efforts under way to achieve peace in the region.
The two leaders stressed that Jordan and Egypt will continue their joint efforts and contacts with Israel and the international community to lift the blockade imposed on the Gaza Strip and stop Israeli military operations targeting innocent Palestinians in Gaza.
Foreign Minister Salah Bashir will leave for Cairo on Thursday to meet with Egyptian officials and look into means to end the Israeli violations.
Also on Tuesday, King Abdullah told Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas over the phone that Jordan will intensify its efforts and contacts to bring an end to the siege on the Palestinians, stop Israeli aggression and secure the dispatch of humanitarian assistance to Gaza.
Upon the King's directives, 15 truckloads of relief aid headed for Gaza on Tuesday.
The King also issued directives to bring more Gazans to be treated in Jordanian hospitals.
The third group to arrive in Jordan comprises Gazans wounded in the latest Israeli campaign.
Upon the directives of King Abdullah, Jordanian hospitals have recently received two batches of Palestinian patients from Gaza, including children, women and elderly persons whose cases were described as difficult and chronic.
In the conversation with Abbas, His Majesty reiterated Jordan's utter rejection and denouncement of the aggression and collective punishment imposed by Israel on Palestinian civilians in Gaza.
