His Majesty King Abdullah II and Hungary President Tamás Sulyok, during a meeting in Budapest on Thursday, emphasised the importance of building on existing cooperation between Jordan and Hungary across various fields, particularly education and tourism.

The two leaders discussed the friendly relations between the two countries, as well as regional developments.

During the meeting—attended by His Royal Highness Prince Ghazi bin Muhammad, His Majesty’s chief adviser for religious and cultural affairs and personal envoy—His Majesty commended Hungary for its support to the construction of the new Latin Catholic Church at the Baptism Site of Jesus Christ (Bethany Beyond the Jordan), which will contribute to increasing the number of Christian visitors to the site in Jordan.

Speaking about regional developments, the King emphasised the need to ensure implementation of the agreement to end the war in Gaza in all its stages, as a step towards achieving comprehensive calm in the region, and called for intensifying international efforts for the humanitarian response in the Strip.

His Majesty stressed the need to halt unilateral Israeli measures in the West Bank, and attacks on Muslim and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Director of the Office of His Majesty Alaa Batayneh, and Jordan’s Ambassador to Hungary Mohammad Hindawi attended the meeting.

Upon arrival, an official welcoming ceremony was held for the King at Kossuth Square in Budapest.
