King receives Lebanese FM

His Majesty King Abdullah on Tuesday received Lebanese Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil, who delivered an invitation for King Abdullah to attend the Arab Economic and Social Development Summit, which will be held in Beirut in January.

The meeting, held at Al Husseiniya Palace, covered the strong ties between the two countries and the importance of continuing cooperation on various issues of common concern.

Discussions also addressed the need to unite efforts and positions in response to regional challenges, especially in connection to the Palestinian issue and reviving the Palestinian-Israeli peace process, based on the two-state solution and leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the 4 June 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Developments in the Syrian crisis and means to reach a political solution, in addition to the Syrian refugee burden on Jordan and Lebanon were also discussed.

His Majesty asked the foreign minister to convey his greetings to Lebanese President Michel Aoun, stressing keenness to strengthen ties between the two countries.

Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Adviser to His Majesty and Director of the Office of His Majesty Manar Dabbas, and Lebanese Ambassador to Jordan Tracy Chamoun attended the meeting.
