King receives CAPSTONE Fellows

21 February 2018

His Majesty King Abdullah on Wednesday received a delegation of senior officers from the US National Defense University (CAPSTONE Fellows), headed by retired Gen. Gregory Martin.

Discussions at the meeting, which took place at Al Husseiniya Palace, covered current regional developments and Jordan’s pivotal role in pursuit of peace and stability in the Middle East.

The Palestinian cause and efforts to achieve just and comprehensive peace were discussed, with King Abdullah calling for stepping up efforts to relaunch Palestinian-Israeli negotiations, based on the two-state solution and leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, living side by side with Israel.

In addition, the meeting addressed the role of UNRWA, and His Majesty underlined the importance of supporting the UN agency to enable it to continue providing education, health, and relief services to refugees.

The two sides discussed developments in Syria and Iraq, as well as regional and international efforts to fight terrorism within a holistic approach.

Discussions touched on the trilateral agreement between Jordan, the United States, and Russia to secure de-escalation in southern Syria, which can pave the way towards a political solution through the Geneva process.

The delegates expressed appreciation of Jordan’s positions, led by the King, in support of efforts to achieve global peace and stability, as well as the Kingdom’s efforts to fight terrorism, which threatens the region and the whole world.

Royal Hashemite Court Chief Fayez Tarawneh, Director of the Office of His Majesty Jafar Hassan, and US Charge d’Affaires in Amman Henry Wooster attended the meeting.
