King meets Israeli FM

10 March 2022

His Majesty King Abdullah, on Thursday at Al Husseiniya Palace, met with Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid.

The meeting covered measures to reactivate the peace process, with King Abdullah reaffirming the need to step up efforts to achieve just and comprehensive peace on the basis of the two-state solution that guarantees the establishment of an independent, sovereign, and viable Palestinian state, on the 4 June 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

During the meeting, His Majesty reiterated the need to preserve the historical and legal status quo in Jerusalem, maintain calm, and stop unilateral action that undermines the two-state solution.

The King also stressed that achieving a just peace based on the two-state solution is the key to bolstering regional cooperation.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and Director of the Office of His Majesty Jafar Hassan attended the meeting.

Earlier, the two foreign ministers held talks focused on efforts to create horizons to return to serious and effective negotiations to achieve peace on the basis of the two-state solution.

During the talks, Safadi stressed that the two state solution, leading to the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state on the 4 June 1967 lines, in line with international law, living side-by-side with Israel in peace and security, is the only means of achieving a just and lasting peace.

A number of issues of bilateral concern were also discussed during the talks.
