12 December 2018

His Majesty King Abdullah’s meeting on Wednesday with High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini in Brussels covered Jordan’s partnership with the European Union and opportunities to expand it further.

Mogherini said the EU sees Jordan as a key partner, and appreciates the Kingdom’s role in pursuit of security and stability in the Middle East.

The meeting, attended by His Royal Highness Prince Abdullah bin Ghazi, addressed the support provided by the EU to Jordan to enable the Kingdom to counter the challenges caused by regional crises.

Discussions touched on the importance of coordination and consultation between Jordan and the EU on various issues of mutual concern.

His Majesty stressed the importance of the Jordan conference set to be hosted by London early next year to support the Jordanian economy, and the third Brussels Conference on Supporting the Future of Syria and the Region next April.

The meeting also covered regional issues, especially the Palestinian-Israeli peace process and the need to step up international efforts to relaunch serious and effective negotiations, based on the two-state solution and leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital. The King noted the important role of the EU in this regard.

Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and Jordan’s Ambassador in Brussels Yousef Bataineh attended the meeting.
