King listens to Parliament’s responses to Speech from the Throne

Parliament on Wednesday presented its responses to the Speech from the Throne, delivered by His Majesty King Abdullah on 14 October to inaugurate the 18th Parliament’s third ordinary session.

The Senate’s response, delivered by Senate President Faisal Fayez at Raghadan Palace, stressed the importance of the historic decision to terminate the Peace Treaty annexes on Baqura and Al Ghamr, , which had allowed Israel to use these territories.

The Senate highlighted the need to uphold the rule of law, combat corruption, and improve public services, noting the importance of adopting a new economic approach to stimulate growth and bolster fiscal and monetary stability while addressing the debt.

Delivering the response, Fayez also emphasised that the Palestinian cause and Jerusalem will remain Jordan’s foremost cause.

The House of Representatives’ response, delivered by Speaker Atef Tarawneh, also commended the decision on Baqura and Al Ghamr, highlighting the importance of the rule of law and combating corruption.

The House also focused on the need to go beyond the traditional approach in dealing with political and economic developments.

Tarawneh said the House will continue its legislative and oversight roles, with the aim of serving the Jordanian people.

The House’s response noted Jordan’s principles of moderation and tolerance, as well as its unwavering support for the Palestinian people, paying tribute to the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army.

A number of royal family members and senior officials attended the two speeches.
