King inaugurates Prince Hamzah Hospital

25 June 2006

His Majesty King Abdullah on Sunday inaugurated Prince Hamzah Hospital and toured the 450-bed facility's different departments.

Established on 168,000 sq.m. with a total building area of 68,000 sq.m, Prince Hamzah Hospital is expected to reduce pressure on Al Bashir Hospital and other public healthcare facilities, according to the hospital's director, Mazen Nseir.

“This hospital is centrally located and accessible to all areas,” Nseir said, adding that it is open to all patients.

The total cost of construction and equipment amounted to approximately JD50 million, including JD5 million for running costs a year, and JD4.5 million for the hospital's computerisation, he added.

The hospital is staffed by 825 employees, including 159 doctors, 465 nurses, 68 administrative officers, 99 medical technicians and 33 logisticians. Moreover, the hospital consists of 33 clinics, used around-the-clock by doctors from different specialities.

The King laid the foundation stone of Prince Hamzah Hospital on Oct. 21, 2001. Since it started operations on May 1 this year, the hospital has treated some 3,000 patients, according to Nseir.
