20 November 2018

His Majesty King Abdullah on Tuesday held talks with Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the crown prince of Abu Dhabi and deputy supreme commander of the UAE Armed Forces, at Al Husseiniya Palace to reaffirm the deep-rooted brotherly ties between Jordan and the United Arab Emirates.

During talks—attended by His Royal Highness Prince Feisal bin Al Hussein and Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the minister of foreign affairs and international cooperation of the UAE, as well as senior officials on both sides—King Abdullah and Sheikh Mohamed highlighted opportunities for cooperation and joint action in the economic, political, and development-related fields.

His Majesty expressed appreciation for the UAE, led by Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, over ongoing support for Jordan and its contributions to a number of development projects.

The King also asked Sheikh Mohamed to convey his greetings to Sheikh Khalifa, the president of the UAE, commending the UAE’s steadfast positions in support of Jordan and Arab causes in the face of regional challenges.

For his part, Sheikh Mohamed conveyed the greetings of Sheikh Khalifa and his wishes of continued strong ties between Jordan and the UAE, based on the friendship between the two countries that date back to the reigns of Sheikh Zayed and His Majesty the late King Hussein.

King Abdullah and Sheikh Mohamed stressed the strong, brotherly ties between the two countries and commitment to cement them further.

Sheikh Mohamed said the UAE is keen on bolstering relations with Jordan to meet the aspirations of the two countries and support joint Arab action.

He also praised Jordan’s role in the region, especially on the Palestinian cause and fighting terrorism and extremism, noting His Majesty’s wise policies in working towards Arab interests.

Sheikh Mohamed affirmed that Jordan and the UAE see eye to eye on the importance of activating joint Arab action to counter the challenges facing the region.

The talks, which continued over a luncheon hosted by the King in honour of Sheikh Mohamed and the accompanying delegation, covered current developments in the region and the importance of maintaining Jordanian-Emirati coordination on various issues of mutual concern.

The importance of ending the Palestinian-Israeli conflict was stressed, based on the two-state solution and the Arab Peace Initiative, leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the 4 June 1967 lines with East Jerusalem as its capital.

In appreciation of the historical, strong ties between Jordan and the UAE, His Majesty bestowed the Order of Al Hussein bin Ali, the highest civilian medal in Jordan awarded to kings, princes and heads of state, on Sheikh Mohamed.
