16 August 2017

His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II chaired a meeting at the Crown Prince Foundation (CPF) on Wednesday to check on its strategy and the progress of current programmes and future plans.

The Crown Prince said the CPF’s initiatives must include as many young Jordanians as possible, and utilise the necessary resources to build their capacities and harness their creative energies, enabling them to achieve their aspirations and play an active role in building the country.

During the meeting, the acting CEO of the CPF, Noor Abu Ragheb, and a number of programme directors at the Foundation presented a briefing on its strategic plan and the goals it seeks to implement, as well as plans to expand a number of current initiatives and launch new ones.

Abu Ragheb said the CPF’s strategic programmes entail boosting youth’s leadership skills, honing their creative talents, promoting social and voluntary work, and institutionalising the Foundation’s efforts.

The briefing also covered the progress of Al Hussein Technical University’s programmes, aimed at qualifying a highly skilled workforce by awarding degrees in technical engineering and science and technology specialisations that meet labour market needs.

The CPF’s major initiatives were also highlighted, including Haqiq, which focuses on honing young people's leadership skills and promoting volunteerism and community service.

Councils at the governorate level will be created under the initiative to support youth’s leadership role and their efforts to effect positive change within their communities.

The initiative will work with more schools and expand into universities to reach the largest number of young people and strengthen their sense of citizenship.

The briefing also addressed the Masar initiative, which seeks to launch a nanosatellite in 2018, designed by young Jordanians. This would make Jordan the first Arab country to launch such a satellite fully designed by young people.

The initiative entails providing research and training opportunities in the field of satellite engineering and space mission design.

In addition, the meeting covered progress in the FabLab initiative, aimed at building a fabrication lab that will be a regional hub where local and international innovators can exchange expertise, and access advanced digital fabrication technology.

The FabLab will also provide incubator and mentoring services to those who wish to advance their creations into patentable and commercially feasible products. These services will be available to young people from all governorates.

During the meeting, attended by Director of the Office of the Crown Prince, Abu Ragheb highlighted the CPF’s strategic partnerships with a number of local and international institutions to advance the Foundation’s goals and develop its programmes.
