Letter appointing Feisal Al Shobaki as Director of General Intelligence Department

18 October 2011

In the name of God, the Most Merciful, the Compassionate

Your Excellency Feisal Al Shobaki,
Peace and God’s mercy and blessings be upon you,

I extend my warmest and sincerest wishes to you and our brave men at the GID.

I have known you for many years now as a loyal soldier at the service of  the GID, untiringly protecting the stability and security of Jordan and its citizens.

As you have in the past occupied leadership posts in the GID, we set our hopes on you to proceed with the modernization and development plan for this national institution,  enhancing its performance so that it can protect  Jordan and its internal and external interests within a forward-looking vision of modernisation, based on the cumulative expertise of this long-standing national institution.

Your leadership at the GID comes as part of our efforts to translate our comprehensive reform vision. This requires that you direct this glorious institution towards supporting the reform process, by employing new tools and approaches, enhancing training and professional development to enable our brave men to defend this country with utmost professionalism, in full respect of the institutional and legal frameworks, human rights and freedoms. These are the pillars of  our comprehensive reform process, for a new, pluralistic, democratic Jordan, in which all citizens participate in shaping their country’s present and future.

You assume the leadership of this eminent institution at a time when  domestic and regional circumstances require strengthening of the national sense of belonging, openness, transparency and accountability, and meritocracy among the new cadres in our security apparatuses, which we direct to nurture the relationship between state and citizens, on the basis of mutual trust.

We count on you and all GID staff to set an example through your actions, to prove that the security establishment remains as it has always been, at the service of the country and its citizens, to protect the sanctity of their inalienable rights and freedoms, unwaveringly committed to serve their interests and needs.

I pray the Almighty to bless us all with success in serving Him and His servants in our beloved country and our Arab and Islamic nations.

May peace and God’s mercy be upon you.
