King Faisal II ibn Ghazi

His Majesty King Faisal II ibn Ghazi, may his soul rest in peace, was the third Hashemite King of Iraq. He inherited the Throne in 1939, after his father, King Ghazi, died, so he became King under the regency of his uncle, Prince Abdul Ilah bin Ali, until he came of age and was crowned King on 2 May 1953.

The crowning of His Majesty King Faisal II ibn Ghazi as King of Iraq coincided with the coronation of his cousin, His Majesty King Hussein bin Talal as King of Jordan.

In 1958, an Arab Hashemite union was established between the kingdoms of Iraq and Jordan, under the reigns of His Majesty King Hussein bin Talal and His Majesty King Faisal II ibn Ghazi, may their souls rest in peace, after King Hussein called for an Arab Hashemite Federation.

His Majesty King Faisal II was the only son of King Ghazi, and with his martyrdom on 14 July 1958, at the Rahab Royal Palace in Baghdad, along with a number of members of the Royal Family, in a military coup, Hashemite rule in Iraq ended after a period of 37 years.
